I'd like to first thank Gary for all he has done. As you know from a previous post, Gary has stepped down. He has done an outstanding job, and still is during transitioning his role to our new PA.
Our new PA is none other than..... Whitney! Whitney was our PA and Assistant Coach before Gary, and we are very happy to have her back!! With her organization and experience, this is a perfect fit! Thanks Whitney, you are greatly appreciated by all!
Progress
Our team consistently gets better. Watching them not only in indoor lately, but also in our training sessions, it just continues to get exciting in watching them become great soccer players! I know some weeks the competition in indoor hasn't been great, but most teams couldn't pull off what the girls have been doing WITHOUT defenders. Watching our "defensive WieHammer" team last week look so comfortable with the ball at their feet, their 1v1 moves, and movement off the ball--would make anyone wonder what our "offensive group, WieKings" would do... I think this all goes back to always demanding that our defenders have the same, or BETTER, foot skills than anyone on the team. I feel like almost every game, there is another coach from another team who is coming to watch our team play to see if S4 is right for them. And every week, the girls simply blow my mind away using their 1v1 moves when needed. This past game was just so fun to watch! And I want to thank Eric who shares responsibility with me in running training sessions, and he simply does a fantastic "A" level session each time. We are lucky to have someone that played at the Div. 1 level, and puts the girls development first, always thinking what needs to be done to get them better! Eric's last training session at WieFit was fantastic! And, I also wanted to thank the girls that showed up at that training session. Having a 7:30pm session on a Saturday night before our 9:30 WieHammer indoor game--I wasn't expecting to see WieKing girls show up. Many did, and that is why our team is getting so great--awesome commitment!
College Promotion
First, I want to thank Chris Sturm for his enthusiasm in taking this on his shoulders in looking at ways to promote our girls. Our definite goal is to play MRL next season and continue to play in College Showcases (Eric and I will be working with Kings and other Clubs to see what road is best for the girls future). But Chris has great ideas on how to capitalize on this. Chris is researching different medias to get games filmed and produce highlights, etc. Not much more on this right now, but just know Chris is great at promotion, and has great passion when he believes in something--and I know he believes in this team! Thanks Chris--much appreciated.
In Need of Another Quality Player
Parents/Girls--Right now we have 17 girls on the team. Taylor is unfortunately out for the season recovering from knee surgery, and Maleah's foot/ankle is still injured. I am not counting Maleah out, but I also have to be prepared that she will be out. That would leave us with 15 girls. Of those 15 girls, after looking at all the dates girls will have to miss for certain activities, and then the number of games we will be playing (KPL, 3 tournaments, and State Cup), it's basically impossible to schedule around all the dates girls will be missing. We also can't ignore that as these girls get older, the game just continues to become more physical, so injuries are gonna happen... Simply put, WE NEED ANOTHER GIRL! I have a few parents of girls I can call, but I wanted to first see if anyone has a possible player in mind. Please let me know asap if you could. If I don't hear from anyone, I will make the calls. I just know that the girls I have in mind are already on teams---yes they have expressed great interest in our team, but from conversation think it might be best to finish this season first with their current teams... SO PLEASE PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAPS! and let me know.
Thanks all, looking forward to our fun and competitive WieKings vs WieHammer game! And girls, I want you to play very hard, but if their are any hard feelings after the game, then.... I will make you run til you puke! We could probably play 100 games with this group, mixing up the teams 100 different ways, and always coming out with 100 different outcomes. You are all great, so you BETTER look at this as a fun and friendly competitive game, or I will let Hunter fight you.
Enjoy the College Championship game! And no laughing at my grammar, I have the most awful flu bug and do not have energy to proof this--
Thanks for all that each of you do, both players and parents,
Brian
