Practice Schedule and Region 2 Cup Showcase

We will have to keep Friday as normal this week (Thursday S4 room is filled until 8:30pm...).  We do not have an indoor game.  Please do your best to be there, we have been getting into tactical work, and season is approaching fast with a Showcase in March (more on that).

Friday 1/23: 5:15-6:45 Tower Park Field (please do your best to be there).
Saturday 1/24: 4-5 WieFit-Skills Training
Saturday 1/24: 5-5:30: Pure Conditioning--bring running shoes--We will simply be jogging 2 miles to begin Aerobic Training--we will pair you up with someone in similar aerobic shape so we can stay in pairs.

We will NOT be playing in the Turf Classic this year.  We found what we feel is a better tournament that same weekend called the Region II Challenge Cup Showcase.  We will be up against all top teams in KY and some surrounding states.  It is a College Showcase.  We have been guaranteed to play in the top division (LFC, KY Fire Juniors, Javanon, Cincy Cup Gold, etc)...  The Showcase is in Lexington.  Here is the Link: http://region2challenge.com/.   I would like our team to be prepared for this, as most of these teams are talented MRL teams that we will be up against.

Thanks, have a GREAT day, and  see you Friday!

Thank You

Parents/Girls,
Just wanted to tell a great story that happened today and tell you all "THANK YOU"!

S4 has become a huge part of WieFit.  Being able to make part of my living doing what I love most (teaching kids of all ages soccer) is really something I am truly grateful for.  And knowing that a good percentage of these kids come from many of the siblings of the WieKings and your referrals means a lot.   Being able to train the huge Sturm group today was fantastic, and seeing the Snider girls and little Ahlbrand girl--just so fun.

So, today I had a knew one on one client at 3:00.  I knew nothing about her.  She's an 8th grader at Ryle.  Her mom stayed to observe the session.  It was a "trial" session.  After about 15-20 minutes, it was obvious this girl would greatly benefit from S4.  The mother, during the session, was asking Molly (who was patiently waiting for me) questions about who she played for.  When Molly told her about the WieKings, that led to more questions.  I shared how much I love our team, and how it's just awesome having a group of girls that represent so many high schools that are so close in friendship. The girl asked if any Ryle girls were on our team.  I said, "yes, Sheena Delp and Morgan Snider".  The girl, with a big smile, asks "Oh my gosh, is that why Sheena and Morgan are so good with soccer tricks and foot skills"?  And that girl continued to talk about their skill and how good those two were with the ball. (Sean or Eric, if that was a referral of yours, very much appreciated).

It felt SO GOOD to tell this Mom and Daughter that when the WieKings had tryouts to add some players to our team a few years ago, and that Sheena and especially Morgan almost didn't make the team because I didn't feel they had great skill like the other girls and might be too far behind; but then through S4 and their hard work on their own, have become some of the two most skilled girls on the team.---wow, that was just so great to say, and just a great testimonial for S4!

Needless to say, the mom purchased a full package and the daughter is pretty excited to continue training (thanks Sheena and Morgan!).

I just want to sincerely thank each parent and WieKing player for working so hard, buying into our skills training, having the confidence to make it a natural part of your game, and allowing me to brag on you girls, and HONESTLY USE THE WIEKINGS as a selling tool for me!  Really, I am not sure you realized this, but there was ANOTHER coach at our game this morning coming to see if S4 would be right for his team.

Anyway, just wanted to thank all of you for putting your trust in our coaching, and all the referrals you (parents and players) have sent me, and allowing me to make part of my living doing something I enjoy so much!

Thanks,

Brian

P.S.  Game this morning was great!  I guess Eric out coached me!  I want a rematch!!!

Tomorrow's TIMES, Practice tonight, Video supporting our practice focus for tonight.

Parents/Girls,

A slight change in our practice time.  I only have wiefit available from 11:45-1:00 tomorrow.  It’s booked until 5 outside of that time slot.  I hope that can work for everyone.  I also am going to look at having our outdoor practice Thursday nights at Tower Park instead of Friday nights—I will look into field availability and let you know.

Sat 1/17:  9:30 WieHammer vs WieKings  (guest player Olivia McQuery will split halves in goal for each team, allowing goalies to get some field time!).  We also have Maria and Isabella out (ice that ankle Isabella!—and win the gold at your dive meet Maria!), so not which team they play for, but we may or may not need to move girls around if one of the teams are short players.

Sat 1/17: 11:45-1:00 WieFit Skill Training

As for practice notes tonight, I think we had a really good practice focusing on some tactical and technical work!  We worked on....
1.   Making Lateral runs vs vertical runs, and WHY and when lateral runs are useful (see video of example of great lateral/sideways/diagonal runs). –USED for creating more space, harder to defend as puts defender chasing your backside, takes defender away from wherever you might have played the ball)…
       2.   Playing direct when necessary (playing long ball to target up top or forward).
       3.  Being able to one touch ball out of the air to a teammate making a well timed run (lots of technique taught using chest pass to one side or other).

Well done all!  See you all for our 9:30 game and then at 11:45 at WieFit.

Thanks,

Brian

New PA, Progress, College Promotion, and WE NEED another Player

Parent Administrator
I'd like to first thank Gary for all he has done.  As you know from a previous post, Gary has stepped down.  He has done an outstanding job, and still is during transitioning his role to our new PA.

Our new PA is none other than..... Whitney!   Whitney was our PA and Assistant Coach before Gary, and we are very happy to have her back!!  With her organization and experience, this is a perfect fit! Thanks Whitney, you are greatly appreciated by all!

Progress
Our team consistently gets better.  Watching them not only in indoor lately, but also in our training sessions, it just continues to get exciting in watching them become great soccer players!  I know some weeks the competition in indoor hasn't been great, but most teams couldn't pull off what the girls have been doing WITHOUT defenders.   Watching our "defensive WieHammer" team last week look so comfortable with the ball at their feet, their 1v1 moves, and movement off the ball--would make anyone wonder what our "offensive group, WieKings" would do...  I think this all goes back to always demanding that our defenders have the same, or BETTER, foot skills than anyone on the team.   I feel like almost every game, there is another coach from another team who is coming to watch our team play to see if S4 is right for them.  And every week, the girls simply blow my mind away using their 1v1 moves when needed.  This past game was just so fun to watch!  And I want to thank Eric who shares responsibility with me in running training sessions, and he simply does a fantastic "A" level session each time.  We are lucky to have someone that played at the Div. 1 level, and puts the girls development first, always thinking what needs to be done to get them better!  Eric's last training session at WieFit was fantastic!  And, I also wanted to thank the girls that showed up at that training session.  Having a 7:30pm session on a Saturday night before our 9:30 WieHammer indoor game--I wasn't expecting to see WieKing girls show up.  Many did, and that is why our team is getting so great--awesome commitment!

College Promotion
First, I want to thank Chris Sturm for his enthusiasm in taking this on his shoulders in looking at ways to promote our girls.  Our definite goal is to play MRL next season and continue to play in College Showcases (Eric and I will be working with Kings and other Clubs to see what road is best for the girls future).  But Chris has great ideas on how to capitalize on this.  Chris is researching different medias to get games filmed and produce highlights, etc.  Not much more on this right now, but just know Chris is great at promotion, and has great passion when he believes in something--and I know he believes in this team!  Thanks Chris--much appreciated.

In Need of Another Quality Player
Parents/Girls--Right now we have 17 girls on the team.  Taylor is unfortunately out for the season recovering from knee surgery, and Maleah's foot/ankle is still injured.  I am not counting Maleah out, but I also have to be prepared that she will be out.  That would leave us with 15 girls.  Of those 15 girls, after looking at all the dates girls will have to miss for certain activities, and then the number of games we will be playing (KPL, 3 tournaments, and State Cup), it's basically impossible to schedule around all the dates girls will be missing.  We also can't ignore that as these girls get older, the game just continues to become more physical, so injuries are gonna happen...  Simply put, WE NEED ANOTHER GIRL!   I have a few parents of girls I can call, but I wanted to first see if anyone has a possible player in mind.  Please let me know asap if you could.  If I don't hear from anyone, I will make the calls.  I just know that the girls I have in mind are already on teams---yes they have expressed great interest in our team, but from conversation think it might be best to finish this season first with their current teams...   SO PLEASE PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAPS! and let me know.

Thanks all, looking forward to our fun and competitive WieKings vs WieHammer game!  And girls, I want you to play very hard, but if their are any hard feelings after the game, then.... I will make you run til you puke!  We could probably play 100 games with this group, mixing up the teams 100 different ways, and always coming out with 100 different outcomes.  You are all great, so you BETTER look at this as a fun and friendly competitive game, or I will let Hunter fight you.

Enjoy the College Championship game!   And no laughing at my grammar, I have the most awful flu bug and do not have energy to proof this--

Thanks for all that each of you do, both players and parents,

Brian

WieHammer and WieKings Subs

Parents/Girls--I know I have gotten some emails about girls not being able to make certain games.  I think by having two teams, we can put a nice policy in place so everyone is able to play 8 games (what you all paid for!).
If you can't make a game, put a tweet out and see if anyone from the other team is unable to make one of their games, and then just see if they want to switch those weeks.   So instead of having the coaches try and track this, just tweet it and do it yourselves!  That way no one gets shorted games due to prior commitments, and we should always have enough players!

Ok, back to work, have a great day!
Brian

Practice schedule changes for this week

Parents/Young Ladies,

It appears it will be miserably cold Friday evening.  I'd like to take it indoors at WieFit Friday BUT that room is booked out this Friday.

That room is available tomorrow (Thursday) from 7:00 and after.

Let's go ahead and schedule practice for 7-8:45 tomorrow at WieFit.
We will NOT have practice Friday.
The WieHammer Group has an indoor game at Town and Country at 9:30 PM.
So, let's plan on having practice prior to that from 7:30-8:45 at WieFit.

Ok, Recap for this week:

Thursday 1/8 7:00-8:45PM  WieFit
Saturday, 1/10  7:30-8:45PM WieFit
Saturday, 1/10 9:30PM Indoor game for WieHammer Team Only

Please try your best to make.  If you can't make it for basketball or other commitments-no need to tell me at this time--I know girls are dedicated and will be here if they can.

Thanks,
Brian
