Today's s4

Here is a couple of videos on the Messi V move and the Zidane Roulette move.

For the Messi move there is a slightly different variation starting with a fake.

New policy on no shows for Winter Training

Parents,
I understand most of you do whatever possible to get your girls to practices.  I know bball right now, vactions, trump soccer if they conflict at the same time.  To save me, and YOU the headache of having to communicate to me when your daughter can't make an S4 session, there is no need to email or call me or any of the coaches.  We'll just assume they aren't there because they are sick, too much homework, bball, vacation, etc.   I feel pretty confident that most of the team is very committed to making the sessions when possible and you understand that S4 is what will seperate our team from some of the stronger, faster, bigger teams that we will play.

BUT, WE DO NEED TO KNOW  if they aren't going to make an indoor game so we can get subs if needed.  And, once outdoor practice begins, we will need to know then too, since many of the lesson plans are based on number of players present.

Thanks all.

Brian

Final Game Notes Indoor Session 1, Second S4 Training Day, Next Indoor game date

WieKings,
Congrats on totally dominating today with a very impressive 8-1 victory against a team that had just beat us about 6 weeks ago 6-4!  Wow, as Eric said, best game yet.

The combination of S4, great passing, awesome runs, and GREAT FINISHING was the best yet.  You girls were choosing the right times to use your skill and the right times to make great 1 and 2 touch passes.  And what was really impressive was you were using so much skill the first half when the other team was playing 100%--it wasn't like you only used it when they finally through in the towel towards the middle of the second half.  And that's the goal--take teams out of their game mentally by scoring early!

Our Defense was always looking to set up our offense.  I don't remember us having to ever clear the ball...  Our defenders really were playing with great confidence, keeping their heads up to see their options, and using S4 to dribble out of tough situations!  Our Center Midfielders were doing such an excellent job in being an option and then finding the best option, and also taking girls one on one.  And our Strikers were making great runs and finishing with incredible strikes.  And many times our strikers were creating shots on their own using good skill and touches, which I was so happy to see--all of our strikers played really well, but a special congrats to Morgan and Maleah who played their best games ever!  And thanks Olivia for playing a great game in goal (and field too--nice goal!)!

Job well done entire Team!  That ends the first session -- I know I had put an email out a couple weeks ago stating we had another game this session.  I must have looked at the schedule wrong.  Today was our last game for this 1st Session.  See you today at 2:00 for S4! (Parents, as always, please feel free to use the gym while your duaghters are taking S4--please take me up on it!--noone will be there, so it's all yours).

Finally, we will add a second day of S4 training on Mondays fron 8-8:50 beginning Monday, January 6th.  I will go until 9, but if people want to leave early since it's a school night, I understand.  Just come in and get your daughter.  Once things calm down a little at WieFit, we can change it to 7-8 if that opens up, but right nowMonday's from 8-9 is our only option.  And girls/parents, the difference the few sessions we've had, have made an incredible difference after looking at our first 2-3 indoor games compared to our last 4 games!!  Please try and get the girls there--thanks!

Brian

Congrats WieKings for being Promoted to the Buckeye Elite 1 Division! The Teams Future...

Parents/Girls,

Congrats to the girls on being PROMOTED to Buckey's Elite 1 Division!  Just to think a few years ago we were stuggling in CUSL's 3rd division.  Congrats girls on your hard hard hard work, and you too Parents for your dedication and support.  A team full of "crazy soccer parents" would never have allowed for this to happen--So again, I thank you parents.

Just looking at the teams we will be playing in this division, I can tell you it's going to be very tough.  If you remember the difference of CUSL 2 to CUSL 1 when we initially made that jump...  It was a very rough first season.  The teams in this Buckeye Elite 1 division are the top teams at each of their respective Clubs.

I am sincerely confident they will compete once again.

Ok, with this said, we as a team, are in a very odd situation and need to at least put some things on the table to think about.  Here is why...

1. For us to compete at this level, we almost need to make our winter training mandatory (as do all of the clubs for their top teams).  At the u14 level, a clubs top team is almost made up entirely of "soccer first" or "soccer only" players.  Now, I am not going to ask that.  At least not "soccer only".  Possibly after the spring season is completed, we may need to have a parent/player team meeting and find out how many are willing to be at least "soccer first".

2. I would like to train two days a week beginning January 1st--we should do three, as most u14 MRL teams practice in the winter, but 2 will suffice.  After seeing what three days a week has done for Morgan, Sheena, and Taylor (and now Jenna), I know that I need to provide at least two days a week for our team this winter (Jan-March).  If one was to come watch an S4 session, those 4 would stand out right now as the top 4, with Morgan probably leading the pack.  This is from a Coach who just two years ago told Morgan's Dad after tryouts "I will keep her, but due to her lack of skill, I can't guarantee a ton of playing time...".  So please, do your absolute best to get the girls to our winter training sessions!

3.  Because we are a team made up of girls in multiple activities, I know there will always be issues.  I know for example that high school basketball and dance are mandatory, and during the bball season, they will always trump soccer training.  I understand that and that is fine.  Please, just keep in mind that if your daughter can make it to our training sessions before OR after their bball practice or bball game, that I really would like you to try and make it happen.  I SINCERELY want 17 girls on our team to be the top 17 soccer players in NKY soccer by the time they are Sophomores.  That is the training that we are providing now for them--it can happen.  For those girls that were at our first winter S4 training, I am sure they will tell you how different the training was. We focused on only a couple moves the entire hour instead of 10 moves like in the past.  We demanded they use them at game speed.  We also broke down when to use each move based on situation.  We won't move on to new moves until they can perform the first two at game speed in their sleep!  HERE IS MY POINT--- I don't want to have weaker players holding back those that are fully committed because they missed training, and that WILL happen if they miss.  I truly believe (I KNOW, ACTUALLY), that each training they get is probably 5x the effectiveness of our typical winter training session last year.  I can see this as a time where a big gap can occur from those coming to the trainings and those not.  Hannah last week played almost entire indoor game (and I never have seen her have to work so hard), then went to her basketball game, and then came back for our S4 training.  She seemed like she had tons of energy at our S4 training too.  She is in incredible shape--the shape a full team at the ELITE 1 level should be in.  As long as the girls get the right foods and stay hydrated, and proper rest at night, they will be fine (old bodybuilding saying-- "there is no such thing as over training; just under eating and under sleeping"!).

4. This is the last one---After Buckeye ELITE 1, the next thing is Buckeye STATE or MRL (midwest regional league).  I have a feeling we will be at one of those two within a year. When that happens, it will require "soccer first girls".  MRL play games year round and require a lot of travel throughout the Midwest.  HEAR ME on this--I don't want to get to this level just for some coaching glory... There just isn't anything else left after this!  We conquered CUSL and had to leave that league to stay competitive.  If we do the same in this ELITE 1 Division, which we will in a season or two, then we will have conquered Ohio's top league.  So, after that, it would need to be the regional league (MRL) and then the National League after that (I am serious!).  I want 17 girls to get College Soccer scholarships.  I really want to do my best to provide that opportunity for each girl.  I am not saying at all that we would have to be in the Buckeye STATE division or MRL for that to happen, but it would give the girls a ton more exposure!  So, with that said, those divisions require a MINIMUM of 3 weekly practices, along with TONS of games.

Parents/Girls, I am ONLY writing this so you can think about this for the spring season, so when we do meet and discuss, you have thought about it.  Coach Eric and Coach Jenkins have brought this up, and have said that I might want to meet with parents now to set expectations and map out possibilities.  In conversation with them, I said we would not cut anyone as long as they show up and work hard (and they agreed)--but, I just need you to think about the commitment level we expect, especially after this spring.  We have a few girls from other clubs and teams who are taking S4 (yes, I sort of have an academy I could choose players from now).  And these girls are very talented and would be incredible additions to our team who are "soccer first" kids.   I have told them "no room at the Inn" (thanks for allowing me the use of the Holiday Pun), but I also told them that the way our team is advancing, we may have some girls that might end up leaving due to the commitment level needed to play at the ELITE 1 division and higher.  I hope that isn't the case (Our girls are special and I don't want to lose any), but please just keep it in mind if you see the commitment to other activities as being way to great for your daughter to be a fit for this team.

Good night, and once again CONGRATS GIRLS!!!!  Now it's time set our goals to be the best 17 girls in the State!  Seriously, I want you each to be the "stud" at your high school--demand that from yourself :) !

Indoor 12/14/13

Girls,

Just want to send a note your way.  Last week could have been the best I've seen you look against a good BSC team that beat us last year in indoor.  You girls won 4-0 without Olivia!  Many of you said "they weren't that good".  That is awesome you felt that way, because you honestly are that much better.  Anyway, the passing, the movement off the ball (that was phenomenal), and your S4 skill was at an all time high that game.  Well done.

TODAY (this week), I knew that was going to be a HUGE test.  If I look on paper, our scoring leaders from our fall season (2 points for goal, 1 point for assist), were Kylie, Jenna and Maleah (in that order).  We were missing them today along with Hunter and Delaneah who have become two staples in our defense.  I said before the game that I wanted to see who was going to step up in there abscence.  Todays opponent was 4-0 with 28 goals scored so far.  They are the very top u13 Academy team.  Yes, they are 1 year under us, but with the girls we were missing, and the fact that they are a VERY GOOD u13 team, I knew we had to play the hardest we've every played--ever.

I will say this.  If last week was the BEST we've played, this week was the HARDEST we've played to get that very exciting 2-1 win.  When girls were coming out with tears of exhaustion, and then asked to go in after 1 minute rest, that was just awesome.  And every girl was giving 100% until they were subbed.  What a TOTAL team effort.  I can't sum it up better than how we scored the last goal.  A FIGHT in the box with Molly and Paisly on the ground doing everything in their willpower to push defenders and goalies out of the way to score with 50 seconds left.  And defenders/Olivia,--to give up one goal in indoor, against an opponent who is averaging 7 goals per game... that is INCREDIBLE!!!!!  Wow, I have never seen heart like that.

Very excited to say our last two games are against the only two teams we lost to this season.  I know we played VERY bad both those games, and have also switched to a 3-1-2 since, but if we bring the type of game we played the last two weeks, we should win very big---but its going to take the heart you've shown the last two weeks!  And Olivia, we would LOVE to have you these last two games!!

Congrats girls!  Hope to see you from 2-3 today for S4 training.  I know it's a lot of soccer in one day, but for now, I can't offer it to our team any other day.  Great job girls!

S4 Team Winter Training

Parents/Girls,

I've been getting some emails and calls from parents on the team wanting to get the girls started with training, saying the girls want training.  Very different from last season when I felt many of the girls needed and wanted the break, and some vocalized their burnout...  It's great the girls want more!  That means they are really loving the game, and that's when good things happen!

Right now there is a group of 4 on our team that are training S4 with Stephanie and/or Alex at WieFit a couple days a week.  I hate having girls on our team pay money to train, but I just don't have the openings during the week for me to train them, and I have to pay my trainers...

Molly and Maria have expressed interest to begin too, so I guess we need to look at weekend availability. I've got teams on Saturday that I train.  I'm already down there, so would like to fit our team in on Saturdays.  I know most Saturdays we have indoor--but so do these teams, and I think it's working fine.   Many of the teams get a bite to eat between S4 and Indoor or vica versa.

I'd like to start with Saturdays for now from 2-3, beginning the week after tomorrow.  Saturday really is the only day I can make this work for now.  I will have paying teams prior to and immediately after the 2-3 time slot.  So, please have the girls be there on time, as I can't wait since I have to end on time for the next team to begin, and since it's only and hour, I want the full 60 minutes with our team.  When the girls get there, I ask that they walk straight back to the day care room, keep it quiet, until 2:00 (I ask every team to do the same).

I am extremely excited about S4 this year.  We have added a lot to our program, specifically for the groups that have been doing it for over a year:

1.  Expecting Perfection of about 20 moves, asking each girl take away 10 they can use at any given time without hesitation.
2. Stressing the Speed of the moves--Mastering each move at Game Speed
3. Huge emphasis on when and where to use each move on the field--(game situation).
---These three need to lead to TOTAL CONFIDENCE with the ball.

Every High school has that one girl on Varsity that basically has to be double teamed since they are so confident and skilled with the ball.  Brooklyn Rivers is the Girl for highlands, Lauren Nemeroff for Dixie, Arnzen and Tierney for Notre Dame, etc.  Most teams have that 1 or 2 girls that simply can't be guared 1v1, and creates so many problems for defenders by demanding a second defender to come help; thus leaving someone wide open...

This may sound crazy, but I truly expect this from every girl on our team over the next few seasons.  And I don't think one has demanded this respect from a defender yet...  We overall are a  skilled team, but this winter, we are going to focus on #'s 1, 2 and 3 above to make that happen.  When girls have this, it demands respect from the defender.  The defender will do one of two things.  Try and guard/deny them so tight without the ball; thus allowing the player to make through runs to receive the ball.  Or, the defender will really give them space once they have the ball, in fear of getting burnt--usually waiting for help from a second defender.

Again, we don't have 1 girl here yet.  We have a 3-4 that are close, but definitely not there yet.  And we absolutely have 17 that all have the potential..

I can't tell you enough how a full team of this type of player will open up 1 and 2 touch soccer so much.
Again, defenders will over mark, or give too much slack.

Lastly--this winter training is not mandatory, but highly recommended.  I know for some it might mean an extra trip with indoor games, but if I had it on Sunday or during the week, it'd be a trip anyway... And I have a big feeling that consistent attendance this winter will really differentiate the girls individual ability and play this spring.

Thanks, and I'll see you all at the indoor game tomorrow, and then hopefully both the indoor game and S4 training the following Saturday.

Happy Holidays!

Brian

P.S.  I am tired of training all of these other teams every night and not our team!!!!
