Great third game of this weekend!

Girls,
Well done!  Playing 3 games in a row like that can take a toll.  It is very exciting so see how you pulled out a win today and looked in much better shape than that team considering I thought you would be the more tired team today.  GREAT GREAT GREAT preparation for State Cup Tourny!   Playing in the heat, giving 100%, coming out with the win against another good team!  That team tied Gesners team, which we know is a good team, so beating them today in the fashion you did was exciting to see.

Going up 2-0 was great.  You really dominated.  Liv, very very nice save on the PK--wow.  Didn't like seeing them make a goal, to then make the game interesting... Gotta put a team like that away!  I know we put a fantastic goal in that was called offside.  That would have made it 3-0 and I believe they would have really caved.  But you held out and got the win.

Great passing again, nice runs.  Morgan, you are really beginning to get your cardio!  Look what that does--it allows you to be on the field, and the longer you are on the field, the greater things happen!  Morgan, what a Fantastic assist to Ciara who crashed goal and finished PERFECT, , and great goal yourself Morgan working with Megan who played really well today!!  Well done midfield, played well.  When Jenna went down at 0-0, and to see you girls all step up put in two goals was fantastic.  Jenna--you were giving 110% on a hot and sunny day!  That excites me going into state cup, where we know it will be hot like every year.

Defense--well done.  That girl on the wing was lightening fast.  You contained her well.  Hannah and Isabella, I don't think I mention you two enough.  You two do so well on winning on defense, and so skilled when you get the ball with your dribble and passing.  You two and Jessica and Hope really do a fantastic job, and of course Sophie when we add you back into that mix, it's just great defense from all of you!!

YOU GIRLS ARE IN FIRST PLACE ALONE IN KPL U16 as the only U15 team!!! You should all feel really good, but come to practice knowing that we can continue to really improve!

I appreciate each one of you!  You all contributed greatly this weekend!

Well Done!

Girls,
I think tonight was a testament to how much you have improved!  I wasn't at either indoor game, but when you played that team, I know it wasn't a good result.  I also know we played with 1/2 of our team each time, but regardless, today you did really well.

I felt, as Coach Eric mentioned, your passing out of the back was really nice to watch today!  They were holding a flat line the first half, and sometimes the second half.  The first half we possessed well, but were missing many opportunities to take advantage of the speed mismatches we had up top. Sometimes we might have possessed a little too much, when playing a little more direct, and allowing our speed to go 1 on 1 with their backs would have made more sense.  When we did do that, you saw what happened with the break aways!  One unfortunately being a blatant tackle from the goalie holding onto Morgans ankles--should have definitely been a PK, but... "if 'ifs and buts' were fruits and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas!"--girls, that basically means no excuses!

Anyway great first half goal.  Megan, so proud to see you slot that in, thanks for running in on it Danielle, and Jenna, GREAT strike for goal off of the deflection!  We have a few more great opportunities on wide open goal, but shot too high, or right to the goalie.  Anyway, we definatley had more opportunities and better possession.

I felt we began to expose them a little more.  Many times we beat their defender, and instead of attacking space and going straight to goal after we beat our mark, we passed into pressure for some reason?  Remember, when you beat your defender, explode into space with your dribble, unless someone is wide open for a better shot.

I have to say the other team has a nice team, and Coach Gesner does a good job with them.  And I knew Taylor Tolles was a good player, but she is better than I thought.  She is really a top notch striker.  Seeing that, and seeing we kept all of her shots just around the 18 yard mark, says a lot for our defense.  I know we began to focus on her and you guys did a great job, because like I said, she is very good and confident with the ball, and has great timing on her chop/cut with the ball.--well done defense.  And Olivia, thank you for making so many of those outside shots they had seem like very routine save for you--We don't take that for granted and appreciate you making things look easy!

I could talk about the good things each player did, because you all did very good things at times today.  But, I do want to take this time to give credit to one player that I thought had a very good game yesterday, and really had a GREAT game today.  Hope Karnes!  You were great with your defense on the ball, and great with the ball at your feet.  You ran through and won so many 50/50 balls, and you dribbled and exploited space in front of you, and almost always connected your passes.  Well done Hope!  Keep that up.

Oh, and definitely should have been a second PK call that second half--I know, I felt bad for you girls walking away with at Tie when two blatant PK calls were missed--but again, if ifs and buts were fruit and nuts....!  Moral to take away--finish the chances you get so we don't put games like that in the refs hands...

Well done girls, lets get the Win tomorrow and go 2-0-1 with these three games in three days!

Coach Brian

WieKings Go to Camp

Great win yesterday.  We were definitely the better passing and possessing team and we had the best chances on goal.  And what is truly great about this team is how great your girls support each other, get along and just enjoying being together.  It was great listening to the cheering from the bench for each girls on the field.

If and as much as possible we would love to see you girls go to an overnight camp together to get additional instruction together by a different coaching staff where you can see a different perspective.  also the time together as a team will be great.

It seems the best price for content to do this would be at Centre College the from the 6/20-24.  The cost is $395.  the timing could end up being bad if we when sate cup which should be what happens then we would have regional that weekend most likely.  So I have arranged with the camp director that we would register but not pay and he will allow us to back out if that happens.

If you are interested please go ahead and register with who you want to room with here.

Please let coach Eric know after you sign-up.

I know there are 4 girls that responded before that they can not go at that time unfortunately there really is not a better option at a better timing within 800 miles of here.  (the time is very limited to just a few weeks in June with High School practice starting in July)

Also you can try to get a $50 discount if you write a paper on why you want to go and why you deserve a discount.  You can find the application on the Centre site.

Hopefully we will get 11 to go and have a great team learning experience.

Wiekings Rock!!!

Subbing Explanation

As we come in to the heart of the KPL games we want to make sure everyone understands the subbing rule and the strategy we will use to meet it.  The KPL rule is you can sub up to 7 players a half and the same player can only go in 1 time per half.
Which means if some one is subbed out in the 1st 10 minutes of the 1st half they are not allowed back into the game until the 2nd half.  So how we plan to meet this is since halves are 40 minutes we will start subbing close to the 20 minute mark.  But we will keep 1 player per half out for nearly the whole half maybe put her in around 35 minutes.  The reason for this is to avoid getting in trouble with an injury and having to play with 10 players.  This happened in the NKSA game, both us and the NKSA team put all our subs half way through the 2nd half and they unfortunately for them had an injury and could not sub so played with 10 players.  We scored within 2 minutes after the injury.   I definitely prefer the show case freedom to sub as often as you like.  It is very important that we do well in KPL in order to have a bid to get into MRL next year.  So we need to do what we can to protect that.

This is going to be an extremely tough weekend with 3 games in a row most likely with teams on Saturday and Sunday that are rested, so girls please make sure you eat well the evening meal before (Friday eat larger meal after the game) and get lots of sleep.
