Champions are made in the offseason. What are you going to do from today until State Cup this Weekend? If you lack left foot skills, are you touching the ball inside and outside of your left foot 1000's of times daily. Passing against the wall, juggling?? Are you watching the game video from this weekend that is located on this blog (located to the right) and thinking of "better options" that you could have made...?
Here is a video that I send daily to many of the WieFit Athletes. Watch it. Watch it twice, and listen to the words. And then ask yourself, "what can I do every day this summer, if only for 20-30 minutes, that will make me the best I can be"? It's up to you!

Believe!
Girls,
In 1980 at the Winter Olympics, the USA Hockey team was to play the Powerhouse Soviet Union (Russia) team. The Russian Team had won the previous 4 Olympic gold medals in Hockey. They were heavily favored again, especially against the USA team.
The USA team was made up of all college kids. The Russian team was made up of all professional hockey players. Earlier that year, the Russian badly beat the USA team 10-3.
What happened that night shows that anything is possible. The USA won! Yes, those college kids, that noone gave a chance, won the Gold Medal by beating the so-called Powerhouse Russian Team.

S4 Summer Camp
Parents,
WieFit is putting on an S4 camp in June. I'd like for the girls to attend if possible. I will be having 5 trainers attending--all excellent. We just hired Alex Dean who was an all-star at Highlands (1st team all-state), who starts for Thomas Moore and was just named 2nd team All-PAC, along with a page of other soccer accomplishments. Sydney Hiance (4 year starter at UK) and Stephanie Graves (all time leading scorer and assist leader at Highlands, along with 2 years as a NKU starter and 2 years Moorehead State starter) both also have a book of soccer accomplishments--they will also be there all 5 days. I will have WieFit Athletic Trainer, Ryan Ball, running the Athletic Training Portion (Exercise Science Bachelor degree from Georgetown University, and WieFit trainer for the past 1.5 years).
As you can see, we believe this is going to be a top notch camp. The girls are invited to attend at NO CHARGE. I just need to know how many will be showing up (organizing this without knowing numbers is a task...).
If siblings want to attend, it is 50% off (sorry, I have to pay these trainers per head, so our team will already put me behind...!).
All I ask is that you and/or your daughter pass along information on this camp. I have brochure's; I've sent out emails (I'm guessing you all got), I have it up on my website, Facebook, etc.
I will bring brochures to our practice Thursday and give 10 to each girl--If you need more, let me know--I jsut ask they do not go to waste, as full color brochures are costly. If each girl could pass these out to friends, that would be appreciated. I would like if each girl attending could do their best to be responsible for at least one person signing up. BUT, if that doesn't happen, I STILL want our team to be there. Please think of creative ways to get this info out (Facebook, Siblings Teams, Email, Handing out the brochures at soccer parks, etc.).
Our team needs to get back on the "skill" wagon. We aren't using 1 v 1 moves as much as we used to. A lot of our girls aren't showing the confidence with the ball as they had at one time. For example, I yelled "skill" to Danielle when she recieved the ball, and she quickly used a simple scissors and left her defender in the dust. I want this to come natural again.
We also need to get these girls stronger. We got pushed off the ball all week. Thank goodness we were more skilled than the other teams, because we definately weren't winning the physical battle! This Athletic Training will help!
Hope to see all the girls there!, and any help in promoting this is more than appreciated!
Thanks,
Brian

Switching Fields creates scoring opportunities
Watch 10 times--get this in your mind. And if that pass wasn't availaible from one outside back to the other, there is always the option for that back to use OLIVIA to switch the fields, or even play it to a checking midfielder who can switch fields. SWITCH FIELDS OFTEN. It creates scoring opportunities. Playing back into pressure rarely does. Switching fields catches the defense off balance. WATCH THIS CLIP!!!

we got mad skilz, NOW LET'S FIX THE SIMPLE THINGS LIKE SIMPLE PASSING!
Kentucky State Cup Semi-Finals!
1. Congrats on moving on to the semi-finals of the Kentucky State Cup! If you knew the amount of people that asked me "why I put us in that tournament instead of the Presidents Cup"? Well, I think they know why now---cause you girls are totally awesome! Also, remember the "points" we will get because we have made it to the State Cup Semi-finals when it comes to rankings--which can help allow us to get in higher seeded divisions/showcase tournaments in the future---great job!
2. Thanks for the gift card--so unnecessary, but so appreciated! That is totally my favorite store!
3. Parents, thanks for all the organization--you all made it so fun for the girls and everyone.
4. Girls, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE really take seriously what coach Eric said about touching the ball a LOT from today until State Cup. Don't wait. Left foot passing off the wall. 1000 passes a day. It can be done in 30 minutes. I know you might think, "what can one week do". Trust me, it can practically make your touch 2x better if you really concentrate hard on it this week with at least 1000 a day. And those really struggling with your left foot, it can improve it drastically. If EACH of you do not take this to heart, you are really lowing our chances next week. We've got to improve this--Do it, seriously. Parents, if you are ever going to push your girl, please do it this one week. Clear their schedule for the1/2 hour, and find them a wall to pass off of, or 1 and 2 touch left foot passing with them.
5. We play Javanon next week. Ranked #1 in the State. I haven't checked their national rankings, but they usually are a top 10 to a top 25 in the country. I say, BRING IT ON!
6. Girls, we were finishing this weekend! If we were able to find time to watch film, you would see that every time we quickly switched fields, it put us in scoring opportunities. I am not sure what it is going to take for that to sink in. The miserable first half yesterday and the miserable game this morning had maybe a total of 3 field switches, versus the first game and the second half yesterday that had 10-15 field switches. Any team, no matter their skill, will dominate us if we continue to play the ball back into pressure. This will be a huge focus at practice. Until then, go read #4 again. And decided for yourself how bad you want this...!
You should all feel proud. 2-0-1 this weekend was good enough to advance! 4 teams in the state left. Who's gonna be number 1??
Coach Brian
And P.S. Congrats Kylie on winning the UEFA Champions Pool! The Jersey Store states it will take 7-10 days shipping, but it's on its way!

Great Weekend Girls,
We were able to come out on top of some good teams, especially yesterday's win. We need to get ready for an even tougher weekend next weekend. Continue to work like the champions you are on your own.
Try to work 30 minutes a day on, juggling, S4 to build your confidence and composure on the ball, and work with a wall at your house doing left foot passing trapping and one touch passing.
Also tell thank your parents, they you all have great one. They took great care of you and your team mates
this weekend, washing uniforms, making really cool T's and ensuring you were well fed.. It was a lot of fun, we get to do it as long as we win so let's come back and win next weekend.

Friday's Game Comments and Saturday Game
I felt it was the best the girls every played (even if it was a tie game). Their spacing was great, passing was very good, they made great runs, VERY good defense on the ball, very good at building up from the back (good job defenders), won the middle, goalie had another shut out, won almost every 50/50 ball, and had MUCH better scoring opportunities than I've seen in a long time. Their switching fields, especially out of the back, was the best ever, and we did it numerous times. We worked hard past week Stepping to the ball, winning balls out of the air, and finishing. We did great with stepping to the ball, winning out of air--and actually, I was not disappointed in the finishing aspect. We were doing things to give greater opportunities to finish, such as slotting the ball in, winning the ball in the box, beating defenders one on one. All of those are part of finishing. Now, if that ball would just roll past the goalie and go into the net! :) Great game led to a 0-0 tie.
Lastly, about that game. That team was playing to WIN the league. I know some parents overheard them say that and asked me if that was the case. I just checked CUSL, and YES, if they won that game, they would have finished first. So, great job girls, you totally outplayed a top team in our division. And, this was the other coach's exact words to me after the game-- "great game Brian, and thanks for teaching my team how to play soccer"! THAT IS THE BEST COMPLIMENT YOU COULD ASK FOR!
About Saturday. A couple parents must have checked CUSL and saw that the game was canceled, because I have gotten a few emails asking "what's up for Saturday". As of right now, PLAN on still having a game. Gary and I were trying till the last minute to get the Thunder to keep the game. We found out today for sure that they can't play. But I purposely did NOT want to have anyone think that it was canceled, and change plans. These girls unfortunately only get 5 league games. If we join Buckeye this fall, they will play about 15 regular season games, and I hope that type of commitment is not to much.
I put an email out to three teams asking to play a game. I have not canceled with the refs, or the field. As of right now, absolutely plan on playing tomorrow at 6:30 as scheduled. I gave each of the teams coach's until 10:00am tomorrow to let me know if they can play (hopefully we can play the Cincy West Heat--the first place team since they were our toughest opponent). This would be VERY helpful in getting our girls ready for the State Cup (especially the Heat!). Parents, I also really want this game because we invited two girls to play with us. I want our team to SHOWCASE our best talent. Remember, these girls interested in our team are leaving a VERY good team, and if we can't show our talent, they may decide to stay on their current team... It also gives us, as a team, to see possible future teammates in action.
I will let you know by 10:00ish tomorrow if it is canceled. And the Thunder game will get rescheduled. Gary and I are working on that and will let you know as soon as we can. The other coach is being difficult, so sorry for not having a reschedule date for that game.
Thanks,
Brian

2013 Season Fall Headcount Needed
Parents,
We have interest from at least 5 girls total from two different Kings teams (Elite 1 and Kings/Hammer). They have all contacted me directly.
Even if we have everyone returning, I believe we still need at least one more girl for a roster of 16. We currently have 15 girls, which only gives us 4 subs. That is not a lot when it comes to 11 v 11. And, with injuries, which unfortunatley occur more frequently as the girls get older and the game gets more aggressive; along with people misisng games for different reasons, sometimes it leaves only 1-2 subs. That is definatley not enough especially on hotter days. We are also dealing with the good chance that Danielle will not be joining us this Fall since she will be a Freshmen, and Kentucky High School Athletic Association Rules do not allow for Fresh or above to play both for school and club in the fall. That alone puts us at a roster of 14 for the fall (3 subs if everyone is healthy and makes all the games...).
What I need to know is if there are ANY girls not returning to the team (I HOPE NOT!!!). I really need to know ASAP in helping me make decisions on who to invite. If we are only going to pick up a girl or two, I may not have the tryout (I hate cutting girls), and instead go watch some of them play instead. But if we have girls not returning, then I will have the tryout and invite the girls to a few of our practices over the next coming weeks.
Please let me know in the next few days at the very latest. You can email me at brian@wiefit.com.
Thanks,

NO GAME THIS WEEKEND
Parents,
There might have been some confusion about our next game. WE DO NOT have a game until next weekend. The game that was listed on the calendar for tomorrow has already been "pre played". Again, NO GAME until next weekend; and I believe we play two games next weekend.
Sorry for any confusion. Enjoy your weekend.

To the right are the updated "foot only" juggling numbers from yesterdays practice. If any of these are incorrect, please let me know.
Practice this on your own, so when we do it for at least 10 minutes at each practice, that you can show us your improvement!

Parents,
Please find below the schedule for the Kentucky State Cup.
As we discussed tonight the first game is Saturday at 4:00 PM. As a result
there is no need to stay Friday night. My plan is to cancel everyone’s room for
Friday night unless I hear from you otherwise. Please let me know by noon
Friday if you wish to keep your reservation.
We are still planning on staying both Saturday and Sunday
night.
